Canon Speedlite 270EX Flashgun Announced

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Canon have also announced the Speedlite 270EX flash, which is a replacement for the Speedlite 220EX.  The main features are the zoom and bounce flash head, but presumably it has no swivel function.  Expected pricing is £149.99 RRP inc. VAT, avaialble early May.  For details visit the Canon UK site.

For a little more (currently £172), you can get the 430EX which includes a swivel head, so I assume the selling price for the 270EX will be well below the RRP.  I’ve always struggled to imagine why anyone would buy the 220EX instead of the 430EX – so much so that I never bothered to list the 220EX.  If anyone wants the 270EX listing, then give me a shout!

Canon EOS 500D Announced

Canon have today announced the EOS 500D.  Headline features include:

  • 15 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor
  • HD movie recording.
  • 3.4 frames per second shooting
  • DIGIC 4 processor

As you might expect, it also includes features similar to the current EOS 450D such as the integrated cleaning system and live view mode.

For the full press release, see the Canon UK site.

The EOS 500D should be available from early May, with the following indicated pricing:

The EOS 500D  body priced at £869.99 RRP inc. VAT.
The EOS 500D EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Kit at £969.99 RRP inc. VAT.

You can already pre-order teh 500D from shops such as Warehouse Express, where they are offering the 500D body with a couple of free extras for £869.  Of course, if you are not in a hurry and can wiat for three or so months, then you can expect to pay considerably less (see the price history for the EOS 450D for comparison).

I will of course be adding 500D price comparison to the site, probably in the second half of April.

Canon Pixma Pro A3 Cashback

Friday, March 20th, 2009

You can now get cashback on two of Canon’s high end inkjet printers:
£50 cashback on the Canon PIXMA Pro 9000.
£100 cashback on the Canon PIXMA Pro 9500.

The cashback offer is valid from the 2nd March until the 30th April 2009.  Visit the Canon site for further details.

This looks like a great deal, especially for the Pixma 9500 which currently costs around £500 before the cashback.
